Biography

Roger Bayley is principal of Merrick Architecture, which he co founded in 1984 with Principal Paul Merrick. Roger is currently responsible as the Design Manager for Vancouver’s 2010 Olympic Village development, Millennium Water. This clearly defined role within the project’s architectural contract addresses the coordination of the 150-plus consultant team across all aspects of the project.

Roger has managed and directed Merrick Architecture since its inception and provides project definition, value engineering, quality control, resource management and project scheduling. His role includes the management of staff and the coordination of the Consultants being used by the Firm. His background in structural engineering and construction management are highly valued in the design process and he has been instrumental in establishing new cooperative approaches to the development of projects and the management of capital expenditures. He has worked extensively in the coordination of multi-disciplinary teams for engineering, construction management, architectural and restoration projects. His most recognized contribution focuses around the balancing of Design achievement with the pragmatics of technical excellence and project budgeting.

Vancouver Olympic Village:
- Design Manager for the site-wide development of 1.5 million sq. ft. of market, rental and affordable housing within the South East False Creek development precinct - home to 2,800 athletes during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Project Manager for Parcel 3, 6 and 10 being designed and supervised by Merrick Architecture. Total Contact Value - $750 million. Design team comprises over 40 firms with a combined project staff of 150 professional and technical support persons.

Community and Stakeholder Assessments:
- St Anns Academy – Extensive public consultation and workshops re use and restoration requirements.
- Legislative Precinct – Extensive public consultation regarding proposed precinct Plan and Building developments.
- Evergreen Line – Public consultation in regard to the development of the Lougheed to Coquitlam ALRT line.
